55th SSC Swimming Gala

Piranhas House retains title

Piranhas House retained the overall championship for the second successive year at the 55th SSC Swimming Gala, concluded at the SSC pool on Sunday.
During the two-day fun-filled event, a record number of 400 swimmers were seen in action between the ages of 5 to 80, under 8 age groups, categorised as novices, championship and veterans comprising 198 events.
The following were adjudged as champion swimmers in their respective age groups:
Novices: U-8 boys - Kavisha Ratnayake from Shark House; U-8 girls - Nethmi Sansala Perera from Piranha House; U-9 boys - Dhinal Weerasinghe from Dolphin House; U-9 girls - Maryam Fikri Fauz from Piranhas House; U-10 boys - Jai Muthumani from Shark House; U-10 girls - SD Bogoda from Barracuda House; U-12 boys - Maneshka V. Karunananda from Piranhas House and Ravin Jayasinghe from Baracuda House (joint winners); U-12 girls - Himashi Jayasundera from Shark House; U-14 boys - Rahul Jordashe from Piranhas House; U-14 girls - Ashika Wettimuny from Piranhas House; U-16 Boys - Lakkitha Dolapihilla from Barracuda House; U-16 girls - Mathisha Weerasekera from Barracuda House.
Championship: U-10 Boys - Manula Wickramaratne from Piranhas House and VI Perera from Dolphin house (joint winners); U-10 girls - Suhara Chandrasekera from Dolphin House; U-12 boys - Kavin Weerasinghe from Dolphin House; U-12 girls - Chamathya Gunawardena from Barracuda House; U-14 boys - Mevan Induruwa from Dolphin House; U-14 girls - Dilaka Goonewardena from Baracuda House; U-16 Boys - UH Perera from Baracuda House; U-16 girls - Rachini Hettiarachchi from Piranhas House; U-19 Boys - Punhasa Senanayake from Piranhas House; U-19 girls - Ruvindi Wijenayake from Barracuda House; O-19 Boys - Malith Arunoda from Dolphin House; O-19 girls - Subani Ranasinghe from Dolphin House.
Overall Championship: (1) Piranha House 483 points, (2) Barracuda House 463 points, (3) Dolphin House 440 points, (4) Shark House 426 points.
Piranha House was adjudged as the Most Disciplined House while Dolphin House was picked as the Best Decorated House.
The portraits of two prominent SSC Swimming coaches late Rizvi Zain and Patrick Silva were ceremonially unveiled at the opening ceremony where Senior Coach, Ranil Gunasena was the chief guest.
Awards were given away by Dr. Ajitha Wijesundara (chief guest), Hemanath Samaranayake (hony. secretary/SSC) and Tyrone de Silva (chairman, SSC Swimming House Committee). [LW]
