Odds narrow down to final Test
Sa’adi Thawfeeq reporting from India
MUMBAI: Sri Lanka knows that the bowling combination that has won for them 10 of their last 19 Test matches is with a three-man seam attack. By diverting away from that practice and choosing to play three spinners instead at Kanpur they learnt a bitter lesson being thrashed by an innings inside four days. It is a result which sees Sri Lanka going into the third and final cricket Test against India starting at the Brabourne Stadium here today (Wednesday) trailing 1-0 in the three-Test series and their dream of beating the host country in their own territory now reduced to just this solitary Test.
It’s a must win situation for Sri Lanka who have nothing to lose but everything to gain if they can pull out all stops and try beat the home country. If they fail it will be Sri Lanka’s first series loss in their last eight Test series. They have not lost a Test series since Australia beat them 2-0 in 2007-08.
