But not free of election violence

Postal voting in the presidential elections started yesterday with election monitors claiming an average of 60-65 percent of voter turnout on the first day itself.

Gunmen fire at Fonseka supporters

One killed, four injured

The first election related death reported yesterday since the announcement of presidential election, when a group of supporters of Presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka was shot at, while they were travelling in a private bus at Tangalle yesterday afternoon killing one and injuring at least four others.

HSBC appointed settlement Bank of CDS

HSBC entered into an agreement with Central Depository System Pvt Ltd (CDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Colombo Stock Exchange, following HSBC’s appointment as a Settlement Bank of Central Depository System Pvt Ltd. HSBC is the only foreign bank to be appointed by CDS, to facilitate the latter’s move towards a multiple bank settlement system.
