Indian pair makes Proteas toil

KOLKATA: Unbeaten centuries from VVS Laxman and Mahendra Singh Dhoni helped India turn the screws on South Africa in the second Test in Kolkata on Tuesday.

The duo shared an unbroken seventh-wicket partnership of 259 before the hosts declared their first innings on 643-6 with a massive lead of 347.
The Proteas, who endured a tough day in the field, picking up just one wicket, were set to face a tricky 10-over period before stumps. However bad light meant they only had to see off five balls, reaching six without loss at the start of their bid to bat their way to safety and a series win.
South Africa hardly helped themselves by dropping catches, starting with Jacques Kallis putting down night watchman Amit Mishra in the second over. The tail-ender went on to make 28 before Kallis atoned for his earlier error, taking a sharp chance above his head at second slip off Morne Morkel.
