A match bag of 8 for 46 by right-arm off-spinner Charaka Hemachandra helped Asoka Vidyalaya to record a comprehensive 9 wicket win over St. John’s, Nugegoda at Prison ground, Mahara last weekend. St. John’s batting first made 193 and in reply Asoka went on to declare their innings on 256 for 9. Rashan Amanda impressed with his right-arm leg-spinners by capturing 7 wickets for 50 runs. St. John’s made a mess in their second innings by getting out cheaply for 88, with Hemachandra claiming 5 for 14. The winners needed just 23 which they achieved in 4.4 overs at the cost of one wicket. This is their tenth win for the season.
The match between Carey and Rahula, Katugastota ended in a tame draw at the Railway ground in Dematagoda. Given the daunting task of chasing 220 runs in 17 overs, Rahula were 64-6 at close of play. Carey set the target after declaring their second innings at 238-7 with half-centuries coming from the bats of Sanka Perera (71) and I Amila (62). Earlier, resuming from their overnight score of 139-5 Rahula succumbed in the first innings at 196 with Sunimal Dissanayake top scoring with a fluent 62. Roshan Subasinghe remained unbeaten at 50. Carey was bowled out for 179 in their first innings with Rahula skipper Amith Thilakaratne (5/50) claiming his eighth five wickets haul in an innings in the season. [SR]
